Jessica Sublett named CEO for Akron’s Bounce Innovation Hub

AKRON, Ohio – Bounce Innovation Hub today announced the retirement of CEO Douglas Weintraub, effective Dec. 31.

The board of directors named current Bounce COO Jessica Sublett as Weintraub’s successor.

“On behalf of the board of directors and the Bounce team, clients and members, we want to thank Doug for his leadership as Bounce’s first chief executive officer,” said Hans Dorfi, chair, Bounce board of directors in a news release. “A steadfast and effective leader, Doug brought a unique, entrepreneurial mindset and style to Bounce. During his tenure, Bounce has grown exponentially, expanding its team, clientele, program offerings and footprint, creating jobs and opportunities for the Akron community. He was also instrumental in procuring several major funding partners. The board is sincerely grateful to Doug for his dedication to Bounce and wishes him nothing but the best in this next chapter. ”

Weintraub will be appointed to Bounce’s board of directors, effective January 2023.

Dorfi said the board considered options to replace Weintraub, including conducting a national search.

“But it soon became very clear to us that Jessica was, by far, our strongest candidate to lead Bounce into the future,” he said. “With Doug’s resounding endorsement, we spoke with several of Bounce’s partners throughout the community, who echoed his feelings. Once we heard from Jessica directly about her vision for not only Bounce, but Akron’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, we were unanimously agreed. ”

The board’s decision was based on Sublett’s understanding of the role and what it takes to be successful, her ability to set a vision and make it happen, her history of community involvement and her understanding of operations and opportunities.

A licensed attorney in Ohio, Sublett and has experience in technology transfer and intellectual property. She has spent a decade working in Akron’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and has led Bounce’s work to secure more than $ 6 million in grant funds since 2018. Her work at Bounce has included leading programming structure, team development and executing strategic initiatives. She also managed the planning process for the organization’s fist strategic plan and is now responsible for implementing the plan.

In her time at Bounce, Sublett has focused on creating inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystems and has partnered with entrepreneurial support organizations to ensure entrepreneurship is accessible to all community members. She is a Greater Akron Chamber 30 for the Future award recipient and is a member of Leadership Akron Class 38.

“I’m extremely proud of how far this organization has come in just under five years – especially our efforts to build and deliver inclusive entrepreneurial programs and the strong relationships we’ve built with partner organizations,” Sublett said in the release. “I specifically want to thank our passionate team for their dedication to our mission and our work – which would not be possible without them. I have extreme gratitude to the board for acknowledging my contributions and providing me this incredible opportunity. And many thanks to Doug for allowing me to grow as a leader during his tenure. ”
